Guest House Community Services, Inc. is a
non-profit organization dedicated to
providing a variety of services to children
and adults with developmental disability.
GHCS was founded in 1995 in New York State
and has since then provided quality programs
and services that meet the needs and exceed
the expectation of consumers and their
families. The Agency’s head office is
located in the City of Peekskill, about 40
miles North of New York City. From a humble
beginning of a two persons organization,
GHCS has grown and currently serves over 100
consumers and employs nearly 70 people,
working as team to ensure its present and
future success.
For over 10 years, Guest House has helped
disabled people and their families address
their greatest challenges. We understand the
critical issues the disabled, their parents
and caregivers face. As such GHCS, since its
inception, has endeavored to pioneer
innovative programs and personalized
services that address issues and needs of
children and adults who are mentally
retarded and developmentally disabled.
Our founder, Joseph SDA Akumu, who also is
the current Executive Director, has
perfected and maintained the original vision
he had of putting the disabled people and
their parents first in the design and
delivery of quality programs and services
that exceeds the standards of our
competitors. After working for several years
with the developmentally disabled people,
starting off as direct care worker and later
serving in supervisory and managerial
positions in reputable organizations serving
the disabled, Mr. Akumu envisioned starting
an agency that would be like many others but
very different in its approach to
development and delivery of services
programs for the disabled. In 1996, GHCS
became the first private agency to provide
Residential-Habilitation services in
Westchester County. Working in partnership
with parents and other service providers, we
have develop personalized res-hab programs
that focused on the identified and potential
strengths of the consumers. With very well
trained direct care workers, GHCS has
distinguished itself as a leader in this
area. Today, we have more than 50 res-hab
consumers who, together with their parents,
are very satisfied and happy with our
services.
In the last few years, GHCS has had
remarkable changes. In 2003, GHCS
successfully added Medicaid Service
Coordination to its portfolio of programs
which has since then developed into a fully
fledged department with many consumers
receiving services from very highly
qualified and experienced MSC coordinators.
Over the years, GHCS has successfully
expanded its program portfolio steadily
which includes: Medicaid Service
Coordination, Non-Sight Day Habilitation,
and is currently working on adding ISS and
Day Habilitation programs. Because of our
great reputation, many consumers and their
parents are choosing GHCS as their premier
provider of services. The agency continues
to strive for quality, excellence and
guarantee satisfaction to our present and
future consumers.
